Indian Passports are issued under the Passports Act, 1967. All official online applications, fee payments, and appointment bookings must be performed directly at passportindia.gov.in or via the mPassport Seva mobile app.

Step-by-Step Passport Application Process
- Register User Account: Create account on passportindia.gov.in selecting your nearest Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office PSK (POPSK).
- Fill Application Form: Complete Ordinary Passport Form (36 or 60 pages) selecting Normal or Tatkaal scheme.
- Fee Payment & PSK Appointment: Pay standard fee (₹1,500 for Normal 36-page; ₹3,500 for Tatkaal) to book biometric appointment.
- Visit PSK & Police Verification: Attend appointment for biometric capture and document verification, followed by local police verification (PVR).
Mandatory Documents
- Proof of Present Address (Aadhaar, Electricity Bill, Bank Passbook).
- Proof of Date of Birth (Birth Certificate, Transfer Certificate, PAN).
- Non-ECR (Emigration Check Not Required) Proof (10th Pass Certificate or Degree).
Tatkaal Processing Rules
- Requires 3 out of 12 specified Annexure List documents (e.g. Aadhaar + PAN + Voter ID).
- Passport issued prior to Police Verification (Post-PVR).
